Glossary: Sitecore CDP vs Sitecore XP
February 13, 2022 Rodrigo Peplau 0
As part of the presentation that I’m preparing for the next SUGCON Europe, entitled “CDP & Personalize for Sitecore XP fanatics“, I found this interesting Sitecore CDP glossary.
The glossary explains many concepts from Sitecore CDP, and I thought it would be the perfect chance to get this expanded with the equivalent concepts from Sitecore XP world.
Do you agree with the parallels in the third column? Let me know your thoughts!
Term Definition Equivalent in XP Abandoned Cart Occurs when a Visitor to your website fills their online shopping cart but exits your site before completing their purchase. Abandoned Cart handled through XP Commerce’s Marketing Automation Campaign, or programmatically with the Shopping Cart service layer A/B Test An experiment that compares two Variants against each other to determine which performs best against a Primary Goal. See A/B Testing. A/B Test Audiences A group of visitors (Guests) to which your organization is targeting an Experiment. See Targeting Audiences. XP does not allow setting target audiences for testing purposes Audience Allocation The practice of distributing visitors (Guests) to Variants. See Setting Traffic Allocation. The percentage of visitors exposed to a test on the test parameters dialog Bucket A bucket is a virtual container to which visitors (Guests) can be assigned when being exposed to a specific Variant. A visitor can also be placed into a bucket to determine if they’re eligible to enter an A/B Test. Visitors are ‘bucketed’ according to their Guest Ref, which Sitecore CDP automatically assigns. See Applying Advanced Audience Allocation. XP does not allow advanced audience allocation for testing purposes Consumer In relation to Orders, a Consumer on an Order is someone who is listed as traveling or consuming a product or service. XP Commerce’s Customers Contact In relation to Orders, the Contact on the Order is the owner of the Order. XP Commerce’s User in the Shopping Cart of the Order Conversion An action that a visitor took, such as making a purchase, completing a form, viewing a page, or clicking a button. Conversion is measured as Goals, Page Events, and Outcomes Conversion Rate The number of conversions on a site or app divided by the total number of visitors (Guests). Conversion Rate is automatically calculated for each MV Test applied Customer Guest Type where there is enough identifying information to identify the Guest, either through details on an Order, through profile signup, or opt-in for a newsletter. Not an exact match, but the closest is XP Commerce’s Customers Decision Model A Decision Model is an intellectual template for designing, building, and managing the business logic behind a business decision. In Sitecore CDP, a Decision Model serves as a container for Decision Model Variants. Rules-based Personalization Decision Model Variant A Decision Model Variant is a variation of a Decision Model. Personalization Variants Experience An Experience is an operational message shown to a visitor interacting with your brand. Personalization Experiment An Experiment is a marketing campaign of two or more variants shown to a visitor interacting with your brand, to see which performs better. Page or Component Tests Flow A Flow (now renamed to Audience Syncs) is backend automation that delivers Experiences across multiple channels. See Flow execution REST API. XP doesn’t support the concept of Flows as implemented on CDP Guest A Guest is a person who interacts with your organization’s brand. Contact Guest Context Service A Sitecore CDP service that supplies real-time Guest data for use in Programmable Decisions and Real-Time Audiences. xConnect and xDB Guest Profile A Site Visitor (Guest) record in the Sitecore CDP app that contains all relevant transactional and behavioral data that’s ingested by the Sitecore CDP APIs across digital touchpoints, with or without PII. Contact Facets, Interactions, and Events Guest Ref A unique identifier generated by the Sitecore CDP for a Site Visitor (Guest). Contact ID Guest Type The identity status of a Visitor (Guest) interacting with your organization’s brand. Sitecore CDP has three levels of identity; Customer, Traveller, and Visitor. Not an exact match, but the closest is XP’s Known and Anonymous Contacts, and XConnect’s Customer Identity The attempt to match a Guest (site visitor) to an existing Guest Profile using PII or custom identity rules. Contact Identification Interactive Experience An Interactive Experience is a Web Personalization that can leverage data from across your full technology stack to show the next best offer or action on a web-based app. See Interactive Experiences. Not an exact match, but custom conditions and rules could match similar results Multivariate Testing Similar to an A/B Test, except that the test contains multiple Variants. See Multivariate Testing Considerations. Multivariate Testing Operational Analytics An analytics screen that lets you quickly see successful and failed executions of an Experience, along with the execution average duration and the number of Events being raised against the Primary Goal. Content Test Results Order A collection of Order Items that are added to a shopping cart. XP Commerce’s Orders Order Item An Order Item is a tangible item or a service that has a price and is distinguishable by its own set of attributes. When an item is added to a shopping cart, it becomes an Order Item and is part of an Order. XP Commerce’s Product Performance Analytics An analytics screen that shows performance data for a Web or Interactive Experience, including which Variant is winning. See Viewing Performance Analytics. Personalization Dashboard PII Personally Identifiable Information (PII) is personal data that contains enough information to potentially identify the Guest (visitor). PII Primary Goal The main objective of an Experience, for example, is to increase revenue. Sitecore CDP uses the metrics of the Primary Goal to measure Variant performance when determining a leading or winning Variant. See Primary Goal. Test Objective Recovered Cart Occurs when a visitor who abandoned their cart, returns to your organization’s site and completes their purchase. Resumed Abandoned Card can be set up as shown in this article. Secondary Goal A Secondary Goal is an additional target you want an Experience to achieve such as increasing your Click Through Rate (CTR). See Secondary Goals. XP doesn’t support the concept of Secondary Goals for testing purposes Segments A Segment is a group of visitors (Guests) with similar demographics, user behavior, or transactional history. Segments can be achieved automatically from the user navigation with Personas and Profile Cards. They can be dynamically populating Segmented Lists and Engagement Plans Site Visitor A Site Visitor is a person who interacts with your organization’s brand on a device. Not an exact match, but the closest would be a Contact with an Interaction made in a Channel that represents a website Traveller A Guest Type where there is minimal identifying information, derived from consumer details on an Order. Not an exact match, but the closest would be a Contact with minimum identifying information Visitor A Visitor is a Guest Type where there isn’t enough identifying information to partially or fully identify the Guest. Unknown Contact Web Experience A Web Experience is an Offer, Next Best Action, Operational Message, or any other Customer Experience that can run on the web or be deployed into a web-based application.
